Martinez, Groshans among Blue Jays’ non-roster invitees to spring training

Top prospect infielders Jordan Groshans and Orelvis Martinez highlight a group of 12 non-roster players the Toronto Blue Jays have invited to major league camp.

Martinez, 20, is the Blue Jays’ No. 2 prospect according to MLB Pipeline. A shortstop and third-baseman, he split the 2021 season between single-A Dunedin and high-A Vancouver. In 98 combined games, he hit .261/.345/.549 with 28 home runs and 87 RBIs.

Groshans, 22, was the Blue Jays’ first-round pick (eighth overall) in 2018 and is the team’s No. 3 ranked prospect according to MLB Pipeline. A third baseman and shortstop, Groshans spent the 2021 season with double-A New Hampshire, where he hit .291/.367/.450 with seven home runs and 40 RBIs in 75 games.

The Blue Jays officially opened their condensed spring training on Sunday and begin Grapefruit League games on Friday. The team opens the regular season April 8 against the Texas Rangers.
