The San Diego Padres have reached an agreement with shortstop Ha-Seong Kim, according to The Athletic‘s Dennis Lin.
Kim posted a .921 OPS with 30 home runs for the Kiwoom Heroes of the Korea Baseball Organization this past season. In seven years as a pro, he owns a .294/.373/.493 slash line and has hit 133 home runs (roughly 24 homers per 162 games).
The Blue Jays were reportedly among the teams pursuing Kim, tendering the 25-year-old a multi-year offer for “five years or more.”
Teams had until Jan. 1 to sign a deal with Kim before his posting expired, at which time he would have either signed with an MLB team or returned to the KBO.
