The Boston Red Sox acquired shortstop Adalberto Mondesi from the Kansas City Royals on Tuesday, the teams announced.

Going to the Royals is left-handed reliever Josh Taylor. The Red Sox will also receive another player to be named later or cash considerations.

Mondesi played in just 15 games last season for the Royals before he tore his ACL in late April and missed the remainder of the year. He batted .140/.204/.140 over 54 plate appearances before the injury. He has a career .244 average over 1,273 at-bats.

The 27-year-old shortstop has one year left on his deal before he is set to become a free agent next off-season.

Taylor appeared in 61 games for the Red Sox in 2021, posting a 3.40 ERA over 47.2 innings pitched. He missed last season with a back injury.
