Hoping to reverse its fortunes amidst a poor start to the season, CF Montreal is adding depth to its midfield.
CF Montreal has acquired Frankie Amaya on loan from Liga MX club Deportivo Toluca FC, the team announced Thursday.
Toluca will be with the side until the end of the 2026 season.
Amaya, 25, has been with Toluca since the 2024 season but spent last year on loan at MLS club LAFC. He made 28 appearances in all competitions with LAFC, with one goal and one assist.
The American international has significant MLS experience, having played for New York Red Bulls and FC Cincinnati before joining Toluca. Over 147 regular-season MLS appearances, he has nine goals and six assists.
The five-foot-four central midfielder was selected first overall by FC Cincinnati in the 2019 MLS Superdraft after starring with the UCLA Bruins in the NCAA.
Montreal is 12th in the Eastern Conference with a 1-4 record to start the season.
