A new potential plan for the future of the Vancouver Whitecaps has emerged.
Ravi Kahlon, B.C.’s minister for jobs and economic growth, told Postmedia's Patrick Johnston that a sale of BC Place to the MLS club is one option being considered.
“Maybe lease, maybe purchase,” Kahlon said.
A couple of reports earlier this month stated Whitecaps management has submitted a proposal to PavCo — the provincial crown corporation that runs the team's current home, BC Place — to assume management of the downtown Vancouver stadium.
MLS commissioner Don Garber said on June 19 that the Whitecaps need to have a new stadium deal to keep the club in Vancouver.
If the Whitecaps want to discuss buying the stadium outright, the province says it's willing to listen.
“We’re open to the conversation if the parameters are there," Kahlon said.
Financial hurdles have hit the club despite its success on the pitch. BC Place, the Whitecaps’ home since 2011, restricts the club from potential revenue streams.
The Whitecaps sit atop the Western Conference standings. They reached their first MLS Cup Final in 2025 and have won four consecutive Canadian championships.
