Toronto FC and John Herdman, head coach of Canada’s men’s national soccer team, have had informal talks regarding the MLS club's head coaching vacancy, The Athletic reports.
TFC fired former head coach and sporting director Bob Bradley back in June. At the time of his firing, the club announced Terry Dunfield as the interim head coach.
According to The Athletic, Herdman is not believed to have had a formal interview with TFC but multiple sources have said Bobby Smyrniotis, head coach of the Canadian Premier League’s Forge FC, and D.C. United assistant Carl Robinson are candidates who have had formal interviews for the position.
Herdman was named head coach of CANMNT in 2018 and is currently under contract with the organization through the 2026 World Cup.
2023 has been a disappointing season for TFC, who currently sit second-last in the league's Eastern Conference with a record of 3-11-10.
