The Vancouver Whitecaps have added some youth to their back line.
The team announced the acquisition of 20-year-old Colombian defender Sebastian Ramirez on Thursday.
The young import joins the Whitecaps on loan from Fortaleza CEIF of Colombia's Categoria Primera A through 2027.
Through 46 appearances and 26 starts, Ramirez has tallied three goals across all competitions for Fortaleza.
He's also made four appearances for Colombia's under-20 youth national team.
"Sebastian is a young, defensively minded player who has emerged as a key contributor for Fortaleza," said Axel Schuster, Whitecaps sporting director, in a statement. "He brings a strong balance of aggression and awareness to defensive situations, while also offering versatility across multiple positions. We’re excited to welcome Sebastian to the group and look forward to supporting his continued development."
Ramirez joins a Whitecaps side that finds itself in a battle for tops in the MLS Western Conference, just one point back of first-place Houston.
Vancouver will next play Dallas at home on Saturday.
