UFC fans in Calgary are in for a treat as an anticipated rematch between former lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez and popular contender Dustin Poirier is set to take place July 28 at the Scotiabank Saddledome.

The UFC has not made an official announcement but both fighters confirmed on social media they’ve agreed to the bout.

Alvarez and Poirier are currently the third- and fourth-ranked contenders, respectively, in the UFC’s 155-pound division. The pair fought to a no-contest at UFC 211 in May 2017 after Alvarez landed an illegal knee on Poirier and the fight was halted. Before the bout stopped it was on its way to being a fight of the year contender.

Both fighters have picked up important victories since that initial meeting.

Alvarez (29–5, 1 NC) is coming off a thrilling knockout victory over Justin Gaethje in a tilt that earned Fight of the Night honours. He also holds notable wins over Rafael dos Anjos, Anthony Pettis, Gilbert Melendez and Michael Chandler.

Poirier (23–5, 1 NC) also finished Gaethje in a Fight of the Night performance in his most recent outing. He is unbeaten in his past four fights overall.

The upcoming Calgary card doesn’t have a main event yet but here’s a look at other bouts tentatively scheduled to take place at the event.
