The undisputed world super middleweight title will be on the line on Saturday night when Canelo Alvarez takes on Caleb Plant as a heavy -1100 betting favourite on the boxing odds at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com.
Currently considered the pound-for-pound best boxer in the world, Alvarez rides a 15-fight unbeaten streak during which he has claimed the WBA (Super), WBC, WBO, and The Ring super middleweight titles heading into Saturday night’s bout at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
The 31-year-old native of Mexico has been idle since adding the WBO title to his trophy case with an eighth-round win over Britain’s Billy Joe Saunders back in May, which improved his professional record to 56-1-2. Among the other top-flight boxers that Alvarez has defeated over the course of his illustrious career are Callum Smith, Gennady Golovkin, and Shane Mosley. His lone defeat came at the hands of Floyd Mayweather Jr., who earned a narrow majority decision win in their 12-round clash back in September 2013.

While Alvarez has demonstrated his ability to go the distance, with five of his past nine contests getting decided by the judges, he also owns a reputation as a fearsome power puncher. A winner of world titles in four weight classes during his 16-year pro career, Alvarez has finished opponents with knockout victories on 38 occasions, including three of his past four contests.
Alvarez, though, cannot afford to look past Plant, who is set to enter the ring on Saturday night as a lengthy +675 underdog at online betting sites.
Like Alvarez, Plant has been a dominant force in the ring throughout a lengthy career. The 29-year-old American has compiled an unblemished 21-0 record, and has successfully defended the IBF super middleweight title he currently holds on three occasions. Plant claimed the belt with a 12-round unanimous decision win over Venezuela’s José Uzcátegui in January 2019, and followed up with decisive TKO victories over Mike Lee and Vincent Feigenbutz.
Overall, Plant has finished opponents in 12 of his 21 career fights, including six wins inside five minutes early on in his career. However, he has steadily developed into a wily fighter that increasingly takes opponents the distance, with six of his past eight victories coming by decision. That includes his most recent title defence back in January, when he earned a 12-round unanimous decision win over Caleb Truax.
