The UFC has held 17 events in England since 2002—it will be 18 after UFC Fight Night: Werdum vs. Volkov takes place this weekend in London—but the mixed martial arts promotion has never been to Liverpool.
That will change this year, however, as the promotion announced Friday that rising welterweight contender Darren Till will headline a May 27 event at Echo Arena.
Till’s opponent has yet to be determined.

“I can’t believe UFC is finally coming to Liverpool and I’m going to be headlining Echo Arena,” the 25-year-old stated in a press release. “My name is going to be remembered in 200 years time for being part of this historical event and I can’t even describe how much that means to me.”
Till (16–0–1) is coming off a first-round technical knockout victory over Donald Cerrone in October. The Liverpudlian is currently the No. 7-ranked contender in the 170-pound division. Till has never competed in his home country at any point in his five-year MMA career.
