There aren’t many guarantees in mixed martial arts but it seems highly likely a fight between Derrick Lewis and Mark Hunt will end before the final horn sounds.
A matchup between the two heavyweight knockout artists will headline a UFC Fight Night event in Auckland, New Zealand in June. The bout was first reported by MMAJunkie then Lewis confirmed the news by writing, “My next opponent is Mark Hunt in New Zealand June 10th,” on his Twitter page Monday.
Lewis asked to fight Hunt during his memorable post-fight interview following a knockout victory over Travis Browne in February at UFC Halifax.
Lewis (18-4, 1 NC) has perhaps the heaviest hands on the UFC roster and his six consecutive wins have him closing in on a title shot. Meanwhile, Hunt (12-11-1, 1 NC) is winless in his last two outings and coming off a brutal knockout loss to Alistair Overeem at UFC 209 earlier this month.
They have a combined 14 wins by KO/TKO in the UFC—six for Hunt and eight for Lewis.
