Frankie Edgar already has his next fight lined up less than three weeks after being knocked out by Brian Ortega at UFC 222.

A rematch between Edgar and Cub Swanson has been added to an April 21 UFC Fight Night event.

The UFC made the official announcement Wednesday night and released the poster for the event, which is headlined by Edgar’s training partner Edson Barboza taking on fellow lightweight contender Kevin Lee.

This wasn’t a rematch MMA fans were necessarily clamouring for, yet the veterans remain two of the more popular featherweights in the UFC, despite their recent losses, and usually put on exciting fights.

Swanson (25-8) is also coming off a loss to Ortega. Swanson had his four-fight winning streak snapped in December when Ortega locked in a guillotine choke midway through the second round of their tilt. Swanson is 10-4 since debuting in the UFC in 2011 with all four of his losses coming via submission. He boasts seven post-fight bonuses, including three straight Fight of the Night awards.

Edgar (22–6–1) landed seven takedowns on Swanson, outstruck him 259-62 and submitted him with a neck crank late in the fifth round of a fight Edgar dominated from start to finish back in 2014 when the two headlined a Fight Night card in Austin, Texas.

April’s event is set to take place at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, N.J., and it will mark the first time Edgar, a Toms River native, will compete in his home state since his win over Spencer Fisher back in 2007. Edgar is 6-0 overall in the Garden State in his 13-year MMA career.

Edgar and Swanson are currently the third- and fourth-ranked contenders, respectively, in the UFC’s 145-pound division.

Here is a look at the projected fight card to date, although the order of the main card and prelims has yet to be finalized.
