Ranked featherweight contenders Chan Sung Jung and Renato Moicano are set to meet in the featured bout of a UFC Fight Night event in Greenville, S.C.
Both 145-pounders are high-volume strikers that boast slick submission skills. Translation: this should be a good one. The UFC made the official announcement Thursday.
Moicano (13-2-1) is a two-time performance bonus recipient coming off his first knockout loss after the soon-to-be 30-year-old was TKO’d by former champion Jose Aldo back in early February.
Jung, or “The Korean Zombie” as he’s known to most fight fans, is looking to bounce back from a devastating knockout loss to Yair Rodriguez back in November. Jung (14-5) was ahead on the scorecards when he decided to exchange with his opponent in the waning seconds of the final round. Rodriguez connected with a unique elbow strike that put Jung to sleep with one second remaining in the fight.
To illustrate just how entertaining Jung can be in the Octagon, think about this: in six career UFC appearances he has walked away with six post-fight performance bonuses.
Moicano is currently ranked as the No. 5 contender in the division behind champion Max Holloway and fellow contenders Aldo, Brian Ortega, Frankie Edgar and Alexander Volkanovski. Jung is ranked 13th in the division at the moment.
This event will mark the UFC’s first trip to South Carolina. Other fights reportedly scheduled to take place on the card include:
— Allen Crowder vs. Jairzinho Rozenstruik
— Bevon Lewis vs. Darren Stewart
— Ashley Yoder vs. Syuri Kondo
— Andrea Lee vs. Montana De La Rosa
— Bryan Barberena vs. Randy Brown
— Alessio Di Chirico vs. Kevin Holland
— Markus Perez vs. Deron Winn
— Andre Ewell vs. Anderson Dos Santos
— Ariane Lipski vs. Molly McCann
