If you are aware of the type of heat both Justin Gaethje and Edson Barboza are capable of bringing into the Octagon when they compete then news of their impeding matchup might be too much to handle.
According to ESPN’s Brett Okamoto, the UFC is attempting to put together a matchup between the two fan favourites at a UFC Fight Night event scheduled to take place March 30 at Philadelphia’s Wells Fargo Center.
Barboza and Gaethje are ranked sixth and seventh, respectively, in the UFC’s lightweight division at the moment and are always a sure bet to contend for a Fight of the Night bonus.
To get an understanding of just how consistently exciting these lightweights are, Gaethje has received five post-fight bonuses (three for Fight of the Night, two for Performance of the Night) in his four UFC bouts compared to Barboza’s eight career post-fight bonuses (six Fight of the Night and two performance bonuses).
Gaethje (19-2) rebounded from his first two losses in MMA by knocking out James Vick in 87 seconds in August.
Meanwhile, Barboza (20-6) bounced back from consecutive drubbings courtesy of Kevin Lee and Khabib Nurmagomedov with a knockout of rising contender Dan Hooker in December.
