Camozzi replaces Dollaway vs. Ferreira in Brazil

Chris Camozzi earned a close decision over Calgary's Nick Ring at UFC 158 in Montreal.

UFC middleweight Chris Camozzi will replace an injured C.B. Dollaway and take on The Ultimate Fighter Brazil winner Cesar (Mutante) Ferreira at UFC on FX 8 in Jaraguá do Sul, Brazil in May.

The change was announced in Portuguese via the UFC Brazil Twitter account.

Dollaway was hurt during training and will not be able to compete on the May 18 card.

Camozzi (19-5) steps in on relatively short notice; he last fought at UFC 158 on March 16, where he won a decision over Nick Ring. The 26-year-old is on a four-fight win streak and returns to the South American country after defeating countryman Luiz Cane at UFC 153 in Rio de Janeiro in October.

Ferreira (5-2) won his official Octagon debut at UFC 147 last June in Belo Horizonte when he defeated Sergio Moraes by decision to capture the inaugural TUF Brazil middleweight title. The 28-year-old Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt has not competed since.

Camozzi becomes the fourth fighter from last month’s Montreal card to fight as an injury replacement on a quick turnaround after Darren Elkins replaced Clay Guida against Chad Mendes, Jordan Mein took the spot of Dan Hardy against Matt Brown and T.J. Dillashaw stepped in for Francisco Rivera to meet Hugo Viana, all on the UFC on FOX 7 card on April 20.

Meanwhile, Brazilian website Tatame reported Marcos Vinicius has been forced off the Brazil card and his scheduled opponent Yuri Alcantara awaits a replacement. Vinicius was a fellow cast member of TUF Brazil and won his official UFC debut with a Knockout of the Night against Wagner Campos at UFC 147.

However, he was knocked out by punches from Johnny Bedford at December’s TUF 15 finale. Apparently, he has now suffered another setback.

The UFC on FX 8 event, which will be held at Arena Jaraguá, is headlined by a middleweight clash between top contenders Vitor Belfort and Luke Rockhold. The latter is the reigning Strikeforce 185-pound champion making his UFC debut.
