Former WEC bantamweight champion Brian Bowles tested positive for high levels of testosterone following a UFC 160 post-fight drug screening.

Bowles had a testosterone-to-epitestosterone ratio of 20-to-1, which is more than three times the allowable limit — the maximum ratio the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) allows is 6-to-1.

UFC 160 took place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on May 25 where Bowles lost to George Roop by second-round TKO in a preliminary bout.

NSAC executive director Keith Kizer revealed the results of the UFC 160 drug tests in an email that sportsnet.ca received.

“All athletes tested. All results negative, except Brian Bowles tested positive for an elevated T/E ratio (> 20). A complaint will be forthcoming,” the email read.

Bowles did not apply for a therapeutic-use exemption for testosterone-replacement therapy before UFC 160.

There is no word on how Bowles will be punished, but it is expected that he will be suspended and possibly fined.

Bowles (10-3) has lost two fights in a row in the UFC.
