Mousasi vs Jacare named UFC 176 co-main event

We look back at the best moments in the career of recently retired Chael Sonnen and recap all the action from UFC 174.

A middleweight matchup between rising title contenders Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza and Gegard Mousasi will serve as the co-main event for UFC 176, the UFC announced last week.

Souza (20–3, 1 NC) is currently riding a six-fight win streak and the former Strikeforce champion is 3-0 in his UFC career with victories over Francis Carmont, Yushin Okami and Chris Camozzi.

Mousasi (35–4–2) is coming off a submission win over Mark Munoz in the main event of a May 31 UFC Fight Night event in Berlin.

This is a rematch of a fight from September 2008 in which Mousasi knocked out Souza with an up-kick at Dream 6 in Saitama, Japan.

A featherweight title bout between Jose Aldo and Chad Mendes is set to headline UFC 176, which takes place Aug. 2 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

Here is a look at the projected fight card to date:

— Danny Castillo vs Tony Ferguson
— Lorenz Larkin vs Derek Brunson
