Lineker overweight for third time in UFC career

A potential No. 1 contender bout between Ali Bagautinov and John Lineker was officially added to the UFC 169 lineup. (Felipe Dana/AP)

John Lineker is one of the most talented flyweights in mixed martial artists in the world, but he won’t be fighting for the 125-pound title anytime soon if he can’t make weight.

The 23-year-old Brazilian missed weight for the third time in five UFC appearances Friday prior to his UFC Fight Night: Machida vs. Munoz main card bout with Phil Harris. Lineker has won three straight fights, two by exciting second-round TKOs. Lineker was the only fighter on the 12-bout card that missed weight.

PROGRAMMING ALERT: Watch UFC Fight Night: Machida vs. Munoz Saturday at 3 p.m. EST on Sportsnet 360 and catch the entire preliminary card on sportsnet.ca starting at 12:15 p.m. EST

Headliners Lyoto Machida and Mark Munoz both made weight for their middleweight tilt; this will be Machida’s 185-pound debut and a win could move him close to a title shot in his new division.
