The Ultimate Fighter Brazil 3 Finale needs a new main event, as Junior dos Santos has been forced out of his May 31 bout against Stipe Miocic with a hand injury.
The former UFC heavyweight champion suffered the injury, which was first reported by Brazilian outlet Combate, while training.
PROGRAMMING NOTE: Watch UFC Fight Night: Brown vs Silva live Saturday on Sportsnet 360 with prelims starting at 8 p.m. EST and the main card at 10 p.m. EST
Dos Santos (16-3) was looking to bounce back from a fifth-round TKO loss to Cain Velasquez at UFC 166 last October. The Brazilian has never lost two in a row and is the only man to ever defeat Velasquez when he knocked him out at UFC on FOX 1 in November 2011.
Miocic (11-1) is closing in on a title shot after back-to-back wins over veterans Gabriel Gonzaga and Roy Nelson. It’s uncertain at this time whether or not Miocic will remain on the card. Grace Tourinho, the UFC Brazil CEO, told Combate the promotion is exploring all options on whether to replace dos Santos or find a new headliner.
The event takes place at the Ginasio do Ibirapuera in Sao Paulo.
