Report: Gustafsson hurt, UFC headliner in doubt

Alexander Gustafsson suffered a cut in training and will be unable to fight at home on Saturday.

A cut over Alexander Gustafsson’s eye has put Saturday’s UFC match-up with Gegard Mousasi in jeopardy, according to Sweden’s SVT Sport and MMA news site MMANYTT.se.

The event, UFC Live: Gustafsson vs. Mousasi, airs Saturday, Apr. 6 on Sportsnet ONE at 2 p.m. ET. According to MMANYTT.se, Swedish MMA Federation president Gorge Sallfeldt said three doctors have determined that the cut Gustafsson suffered in one of his final sparring sessions will take weeks to heal.

“It is very difficult to see that this will be medically approved on Friday,” Sallfeldt told MMANYTT.se, adding that Gustafsson wanted to go ahead with the fight, but “this is a medical decision and not up to Alexander himself.”
