Dan Henderson and Mauricio “Shogun” Rua are set to meet for a second time as the pair will face off in the main event of UFC Fight Night 38 on March 23 in Brazil.
Henderson, who is coming off a loss to Vitor Belfort in Brazil last November, confirmed the bout on his official Facebook page.
“If you haven’t heard the news yet, as of today I will not be fighting in the UFC…but come March 23 I will be! Hendo vs Shogun II UFC Fight Night 38,” Henderson wrote.
The news also confirms that Henderson (29-11) has signed a new contract with the UFC; his old deal expired following his loss to Belfort, which happened to be the first knockout loss of his 14-year MMA career. The 43-year-old is on the first three-fight losing streak of his career, having dropped back-to-back two split decisions to Rashad Evans and Lyoto Machida prior to the Belfort bout.
Rua (22-8) recently snapped a two-fight losing streak when he knocked out James Te-Huna in December.
In December 2011, the two met in the main event of UFC 139 in a fight many have called the greatest in UFC history. Henderson won the bout by five-round unanimous decision.
An exciting featherweight bout between Rony Jason and Steven Siler, plus a light-heavyweight bout between sluggers Fabio Maldonado and Gian Villante are also expected to take place on the card set for the Ginasio Nelio Dias event.
