Alvey, Gallicchio win title bouts at MFC 40

Sam Alvey defended his Maximum Fighting Championship middleweight title by knocking out Wes Swofford in the fourth round of their MFC 40 main event bout.

Alvey (22-5, 1 NC) has won three straight fights by KO, while Swofford (9-5) has lost three of his last five.

In the co-main event, Tom Gallicchio submitted Kurt Southern with a rear-naked choke to become the promotion’s lightweight champion.

The event took place at the Shaw Convention Centre in Edmonton.

In other action, UFC veteran Victor Valimaki submitted Bill Widler in his first fight in two years, plus pro kickboxer Shane Campbell improved to 9-2 in MMA with a TKO win over Jerrid Burke.
