Sarah Moras of Kelowna, B.C., is one of four Canadians competing on The Ultimate Fighter 18. She will be writing weekly blogs for sportsnet.ca to share an inside perspective about what went on inside the gym and house on TUF 18.

Raquel vs. Jessamyn

So Raquel was supposed to fight Jessamyn Duke before when Jessamyn made her pro debut.  Because Jessamyn’s coach wouldn’t allow her to fight Raquel at the time, I was actually the one that got called in to fight Raquel. She is the strongest person I have ever fought, by a lot!  I knew she’s a hard person to beat in the house, and I had a good feeling Raquel was going to win this fight.  With that being said, I never would have expected this fight to be this close.  It was a battle.

Watching the fight live, I couldn’t tell who won the fight because it was so close.  I’ve got to give props to Jessamyn. When this fight happened, everyone was giving Raquel so much credit for the fight. Dana was giving her a lot of attention, and that fight could have just as easily been Jessamyn’s and no one really gave her props for that fight.  I thought they both did amazing.

Jessamyn cut Raquel with a knee in the last 10 seconds of the third round. It was crazy.  Raquel is super lucky because if she had fought in the final quarterfinal fight like I did and got that cut she probably wouldn’t have been cleared to fight in the semi-finals.

Annoying Anthony

When Anthony Gutierrez is in the kitchen making that crazy horrible sound after a night of drinking, that is his “mating call.”

In a preview you see Raquel Pennington running at Anthony and putting him in a choke, this is the reason why that happened.  He was throwing poker chips at the door while we were trying to sleep.  Anthony started yelling out random numbers and wouldn’t shut up.  We were getting so fed up we were going to lay a beat down on him, and then we heard Peggy Morgan coming up the stairs and yell at Anthony.  With it coming from someone on his own team, he actually closed his mouth and let us sleep.

So in the morning we decided to jump on his bed and throw his mattress off of his bed, and about 20 minutes later when he was sleeping again, I ran in there and hit him in the head with a pillow as hard as I could to wake him up, and then we waited and woke him up one more time, just to get our point across that if you mess with us we don’t get even, we make you never want to mess with us again.

Princesses

What you didn’t see is that the makeovers took longer than this entire episode…with commercials.  It took forever! I don’t understand how girls have that much time on their hands to make themselves look nothing like themselves at all. I don’t see the point at all.  It makes me feel fake.

Did you notice?

When Raquel was preparing for this fight, we had a training session where all the guys wore my crazy coloured shorts.  So when she is sparring Cody Bollinger he is wearing my rainbow ones and you see Josh Hill wearing some funky ones as well.  And I believe Chris Holdsworth is in the cage wearing my blue shorts.

A night out of the house

We got to watch UFC 161, the fight card where Rosi Sexton fought Alexis Davis.  I was so excited that I got to watch that fight.  If I wasn’t on the show Rosi was going to give me a ticket to go to the UFC and watch her because it was in Winnipeg.  I would have loved to have gotten the chance to hang out and see Rosi, but being on the show was a way better opportunity for me and I was glad that I was still able to watch her fight.  I thought Rosi did amazing, everyone thought Alexis was going to smash her because of the size difference, but Rosi surprised a lot of people.  I was super proud of her.
