T.J. Dillashaw will look to defend his UFC bantamweight title for the first time against the man he took it from.
Dillashaw will meet Renan Barao at UFC 177 on Aug. 30 in Sacramento. UFC president Dana White confirmed the matchup on UFC Tonight.
The two met at UFC 173 in late May where Dillashaw (10-2) picked his Brazilian opponent apart for four rounds before finishing him off with strikes midway through the fifth.
Barao (32-2, 1 NC) will aim to rebound from his first loss since 2005. Barao had gone unbeaten in 33 fights and was considered one of the top pound-for-pound fighters in MMA prior to his loss to Dillashaw.
Many expected Dillashaw to make his first defence against Raphael Assuncao, who is 6-0 at 135 pounds and has a win over Dillashaw.
UFC 177 takes place at Sleep Train Arena in Dillashaw’s home state of California. No other bouts have been added to the card at this time.
