UFC 156 salaries: Evans top earner in loss

Despite very disappointing losses on Saturday night, Rashad Evans and Alistair Overeem earned the biggest reported paydays at UFC 156 in Las Vegas.

In purse figures released by the Nevada State Athletic Commission (courtesy of MMAjunkie.com), the former light-heavyweight champion Evans took home $300,000 for his unanimous decision loss to Antonio Rogerio Nogueira, who made $174,000 including a $67,000 win bonus.

Overeem, the former Strikeforce heavyweight champion who was returning to the cage for the first time in 13 months because of a failed drug test last May, earned $285,714.29 for his third-round knockout at the hands of Silva, who made a flat $70,000 for the win. Bigfoot was also awarded a bonus $50,000 for Knockout of the Night.

Headliner and featherweight champion Jose Aldo was the top-paid winner, making $240,000 (including a $120,000 win bonus). Challenger Edgar had the same base deal but the judges’ decision in Aldo’s favour cost him some money.

The two also earned an extra $50,000 for Fight of the Night.

Bobby Green got the third fight bonus with Submission of the Night for his rear naked choke of Jacob Volkmann.

The total purse for the event was $1,755,714.29.
