When Amanda Nunes and Valentina Shevchenko first met back at UFC 196 it was a bout chock full of momentum swings. Both women displayed terrific skill and heart in all aspects of the fight with Nunes doing enough to win the first two rounds before Shevchenko poured it on in the final frame. Nunes walked away with the unanimous decision victory but based on how dominant Shevchenko was in the third round many expected to see a rematch at some point in the future.
That’s what we’re getting in the main event of UFC 213 and this time around there’s a belt on the line.
Nunes earned a title shot with her victory over Shevchenko and went onto beat Miesha Tate at UFC 200 to win the championship. She then defended her title dominantly against Ronda Rousey at UFC 207.
Meanwhile, Shevchenko outclassed Holly Holm and handed Julianna Pena her first UFC loss, submitting her with an armbar, to earn her shot against Nunes.
The rematch is the featured bout for the UFC’s annual International Fight Week.
