63 Days to Sochi: Meet Komak the Moose

Komak was named the official new mascot of the Canadian Olympic team ahead of the 2014 Winter Games in Sochi.

If you don’t know Komak the Moose, just wait. You will.

That’s because this afternoon ol’ Komak was named the official new mascot of the Canadian Olympic team ahead of the 2014 Winter Games in Sochi.

The announcement was made at a ceremony at Hamilton’s St. Lawrence elementary school, where a gymnasium full of students got the first glimpse of Canada’s newest export—Komak will be flying out to Russia to be with Canada’s athletes throughout the Winter Olympics.. Also on hand at the school were Olympic gold medallists from our women’s hockey team, Sami Jo-Small and Cheryl Pounder, along with 2008 trampoline medalist Jason Burnett.

Here’s what we know about Komak: He’s a moose, and he hails from Algonquin Park in Ontario. His antlers are meant to resemble a map of Canada. He has his own Twitter account (@Komak). And he will be embarking on a cross-country promotional tour, coming to a town near you. Go say hi!
