89 days to Sochi: Olympic villages

The inside scoop on where the Olympic athletes will live (Ivan Sekretarev/AP)

When Olympic organizers set about designing the blueprints for Sochi infrastructure, there was no shortage of options. With an existing framework of the resort town, they’ve managed to create “the most compact Winter Games” ever. Venues and other event sites are split between two zones — the Coastal Cluster (aptly named for its proximity to the Pacific Ocean) and Mountain Cluster (duh), with the two being separated by 48 kilometers. Each will boast its own Olympic Village, and travel time from venue to venue within each cluster is between 5-15 minutes.
