Ken Read takes over Alberta Alpine

CALGARY — Former Alpine Canada CEO Ken Read has been appointed president of Alberta Alpine.

The appointment is effective immediately.

“We are delighted to bring his leadership to the athletes, programs and events of Alberta Alpine so we may continue to be a strong supporter of ski racing excellence in Canada,” board chair Mike Irwin said in a release Friday.

Read stepped down from Alpine Canada in July because the organization’s policy prohibited a parent of a national team racer from being employed within management of a national sports body. Read’s son Erik had shown the potential to become a member of the Alpine ski team.

“We simply see tremendous benefits of having Ken Read as president of Alberta Alpine,” Irwin said. “His decision to take this job is great for our sport and our organization.”
