Bill C-218 passes House of Commons, paves way for sports betting in Canada

Bill C-218 has passed through the Canadian House of Commons, paving the way for legalized single-event sports betting in Canada.

The vote passed overwhelmingly at second reading in the House of Commons but still faces a few hurdles. It will enter into the last phase of hearings with the Justice Committee before moving to the senate and then to Governor-General for Royal Assent.

Should the bill pass as currently constituted, provinces and territories would be given the responsibility of regulating single-event sports gambling.
