Jake Paul has gone under the knife.
The boxer underwent surgery for his double-broken jaw sustained in a knockout loss to Anthony Joshua on Friday. He announced the procedure the next day, also posting an X-ray of the injury.
“Double broken jaw,” Paul wrote on Instagram. “Give me Canelo in 10 days.” In a separate post from what appeared to be a hospital room, he added: “Thanks for all the support, I’m OK.”
Paul later posted that “everything went smooth” during surgery.
“Lots of pain and stiffness,” he wrote. “Gotta eat liquids for 7 days.”
Paul was knocked out in the sixth round of his loss to Joshua in Miami.
Joshua, the two-time heavyweight champion, displayed why he is one of the sport’s elite punchers when he dropped the fading Paul twice in the fifth round.
Sensing the YouTuber was finished, Joshua rocked him with a right uppercut early in the sixth. The native of England then floored Paul with a combination to the head.
Although Paul (12-2) reached his feet again, Joshua (29-4, 26 KOs) finally crushed Paul’s upset dream when he dropped him a fourth time with a right to the head. Referee Christopher Young counted Paul out at 1:31 of the round in front of a capacity crowd of 19,600 at the Kaseya Center.
Concerns were raised in the buildup due to the mismatch in size and skills. Paul weighed in at 216 lbs (98 kilograms), and Joshua at 243 lbs (110kg). The Englishman, a two-time heavyweight champion, is one of the sport’s elite power punchers.
