Top Ukrainian boxer Vasiliy Lomachenko has joined a defence battalion in his home nation as the country deals with a Russian invasion, ESPN reports.

The 34-year-old is shown wearing a military outfit on his Facebook page.

Lomachenko (16-2, 11 knockouts), a former three-division champion, is gearing up for a June 5 fight against undisputed lightweight champion George Kambosos in Australia.

Lomachenko won Olympic gold medals in 2008 and 2012.

Boxer Vitali Klitschko, the mayor of Ukraine's capital, Kyiv, also has said he will take up arms to defend against the country.
