CONDENSING A PACKER
Bears linebacker Christian Jones hits Green Bay running back Ty Montgomery during a Week 9 matchup in Chicago. The Pack went on to win, but Montgomery aggravated a rib injury in the game and hasn't played since.
FIRST RESPONDERS
World Series MVP George Springer holds the Commissioners' Trophy while Houston mayor Sylvester Turner plays to the crowd during the Astros' championship parade on Nov. 3. Coming just two months after Hurricane Harvey devastated the Houston area, the Astros' first World Series win was a particularly poignant one for the city.
NAILED IT
Avalanche winger Nail Yakupov lets out a yell after putting Colorado up in the third period of an early November game in Philadelphia. The Avs eventually won in a shootout, their third straight victory, but dropped their next three games.
GREEN WITH ENMITY
A smoke canister is thrown by a Leeds United fan during a 2-0 away victory against Barnsley F.C. After the game, Barnsley coach Paul Heckingbottom accused Leeds of targeting Harvey Barnes, a 19-year-old midfielder on loan from Leicester City, but also admitted to reporters his team had been "second best."
PITTED AGAINST EACH OTHER
Stock cars pit during the final race of the NASCAR season, the Ford EcoBoost 400 at Homestead-Miami Speedway. Martin Truex Jr. won the race — his eighth victory of the season and fifth straight top-three finish — and with it the 2017 NASCAR Cup Championship.
FISH OUT OF WATER
Frustrated with Jay Cutler's play early in the season, Dolphins fans were ecstatic when backup QB Matt Moore took over and led Miami to a Week 7 win over the Jets. They were less ecstatic when Moore and the Fish lost 40-0 in Baltimore the following week. Getting his next shot in the second half of a Week 11 meeting with the Bucs, Moore couldn't recapture the New York feeling. Miami lost 30-20.
NEARLY TURFED
Surfer Andrew Cotton rides a 50-foot wave off the coast of Nazare, Portugal, during a filming session for a documentary on Nov. 8. Caught and thrown during the session, Cotton broke his back. He was back on his feet and working toward recovery by mid-November.
TEEING OFF INTO THE SUNSET
Competitors leave the 17th tee during the first day of play at the Fatima Bint Mubarak Ladies Open at Saadiyat Beach Golf Club in Abu Dhabi. The tournament was won by Aditi Ashok. It was Ashok's first top-50 finish on the Ladies European Tour this season.
TIME FOR REFLECTION
Wisconsin Badgers guard Brad Davison pulls up over Manu Lecomte of the Baylor Bears in the semi-finals of the CBE Hall of Fame Classic. Lecomte's Bears beat the Badgers before taking down Creighton in the final of the season-opening invitational tournament.
