Sources: Canadian Birch is leaving Pittsburgh

According to CBSSports.com, highly touted Canadian prospect Khem Birch is leaving the University of Pittsburgh after playing in only 10 games.

“I’m leaving,” Birch told CBSSports.com on Friday night. “I’m headed to Toronto now. I enjoyed my time at Pittsburgh, I love Coach (Jamie) Dixon, had no problems with the staff and the players. It just wasn’t the right fit for me.”

The six-foot-nine native of Montreal was ranked as a top-20 recruit for the incoming 2011 class. This was a freshman class rich in top-end Canadian talent including: Myck Kabongo in Texas, Kyle Wiltjer in Kansas, and Kevin Pangos in Gonzaga.

Birch, who attended Notre Dame Prep (Mass.) last season, was averaging 4.4 points, 5.0 rebounds and 1.9 blocks through 10 games.

He is the 18th ranked prospect for the 2013 draft by nbadraft.net.
