MONTREAL — The Bishop’s University Gaiters forfeited two Canadian Interuniversity Sport football games Saturday for using an ineligible player last month.
An eligibility review revealed the Gaiters unintentionally used an ineligible player in games against Concordia on Sept. 1 and Montreal on Sept. 15, the Reseau du sport etudiant du Quebec (RSEQ) said in a release.
The school self-disclosed the violation and the RSEQ applied the automatic sanction of forfeiture in both games.
The result of Bishop’s 45-15 loss to Montreal will be unchanged.
Concordia had previously forfeited the other game to Bishop’s due to the use of an ineligible student-athlete. That game will be recorded as a 0-0 double-forfeit and be purged from the standings.
Statistics for all eligible players are retained. The identity of the ineligible player will not be released.
Bishop’s finished fifth in the six-team conference with a 2-6 record.
