Brashear to fight Begin in MMA debut

MONTREAL — Former NHL enforcer Donald Brashear will have a new opponent for his mixed martial arts debut — Steve Begin.

The Begin that he will face on the Ringside 11 card June 4 at the Quebec Colisee is not the former Calgary Flames and Montreal Canadiens winger last seen playing for Milwaukee of the AHL, but the MMA fighter from Sherbrooke, Que., who is 0-1 as a pro after an extensive stint as an amateur.

Brashear was originally to face a fellow former hockey fighter Martin Trempe, who suffered a collarbone injury in a fall during training. Trempe will be out of action about six weeks.

The bout is on the undercard of a Patrick Cote-Todd Brown main event.
