VANCOUVER — Brent Hayden of Mission, B.C., and Savannah King of Vancouver each won their second gold medal on Sunday as they continued their preparations for the London Olympics at the Mel Zajac Jr. Canada Cup swimming competition.

Hayden won the men’s 100-metre freestyle in 49.45 seconds with Taehwan Park of South Korea second in 49.61 and Ryan Napoleon, one of 10 Olympians from Australia at the competition, third at 51.06.

"I haven’t raced much since the Olympic trials so I was pretty happy with that performance," said Hayden, the 2007 world champion. "It’s a good indicator heading over to Europe for some races. I was happy with my turns tonight, I came off the wall with a lot of speed and I was able to dig deeper than usual at this point in the season as well."

Hayden leaves Monday for a three-stop meet in Europe, the Mare Nostrum Tour, which starts Saturday in Barcelona.

King won the women’s 800 freestyle in eight minutes 38.85 seconds. Sherry Liu of New Westminster, B.C., was second at 8:40.85 and Breanne Siwicki of Winnipeg third at 8:56.86.

"I wanted to even split the race and I achieved that by going 4:19 in both halves," said King, who has qualified for the Olympics in the 400 and 800 freestyles. "It’s time that I’m happy with while in heavy training."

King will compete next weekend at the Santa Clara International in California.

Scott Dickens of Ancaster, Ont., an Olympic nominee in the 100 and 200 breaststroke, completed a golden sweep in his main stroke taking the 50-metre race Sunday.

David Dimitrov of Kelowna, B.C., won the men’s 200 butterfly
