Former UFC champion Brock Lesnar made a dramatic return to the WWE on Monday night.
Lesnar returned to the place where he first made a name for himself, less than four months after he retired from the UFC following a loss to Alistair Overeem in December.
His return to the WWE had been heavily rumoured, and they were put to rest when Brock appeared at the tail end of Monday Night Raw.
He approached John Cena — who had lost the night before to The Rock in the main match at Wrestlemania XXVIII — and hit him with his patented ‘F5,’ his finishing maneuver inside the squared circle.
The AmericanAirlines Arena in Miami came unglued when Lesnar, dressed in a black t-shirt with cutoff sleeves, black track pants and running shoes, appeared on stage.
It has been heavily rumoured that Lesnar and Cena will have a year-long feud leading up to next year’s Wrestlemania, which will emanate from MetLife Stadium, home of the New York Giants and Jets.
Lesnar won the UFC heavyweight belt on November 15, 2008 beating Randy Couture. He defended the belt twice, against both Frank Mir and Shane Carwin.
He announced his retirement after the loss to Overeem, saying he wanted to spend more time with his wife and family after devoting the two years leading up to the fight battling diverticulitis, a potentially life-threatening intestinal disorder.
Lesnar left the WWE in 2004 burned out by the grind of being on the road for more than 250 days a year. He sued the company in 2006 after originally signing a non-compete waiver. Once it had been resolved, he began his career in mixed martial arts.
