Budweiser drops patriotic new ad with Wayne Gretzky & ‘Gold-Synced Lights’

Budweiser has enlisted The Great One to help turn its popular goal-synced red lights gold.

To celebrate the five-year anniversary of the fan-favourite red light, Budweiser announced that it’s releasing 2,000 limited editions “Gold-Synced Lights” marked with a replica Wayne Gretzky signature and his famous No. 99 outfitted on gold plating. There will also be 10,000 “Gold-Synced Glasses” which have a new gold base.

And to show off the new lights and glasses, Budweiser dropped a pretty cool commercial featuring Gretzky and other famous Canadian hockey faces such as Paul Henderson, Tessa Bonhomme, Dale Hawerchuck, Geraldine Heaney and the On The Bench Boys.

“Goals are the most exciting part of any hockey game, and as someone who has played hockey at all levels of the game, including the international stage, there’s no better feeling than having the country celebrate those moments with you,” said Gretzky. “I’m excited to light these limited-edition lamps to celebrate our country’s biggest goals. Let’s bring it home!”

It’s not the first time Gretzky has helped promote the goal-lights. Last year, the NHL’s all-time leading goal-scorer visited the World Pond Hockey Championship in New Brunswick to hep promote the 20-foot Budweiser goal lamp.

Since the device’s inception five years ago, the lights and goal-synced glasses have found their way into over 1.5 million homes, bars and offices.
