Canada closes synchro swim worlds with silver

QUEBEC — Canada closed out the FINA synchronized swimming World Cup on Wednesday by winning silver in the highlight team event.

Canada received a mark of 90.000 for its Aliens-themed routine. Ukraine won gold with a score of 93.133.

"It’s a fun program. It’s very short, very new, and it features Canada’s strength — its highlights," said Canadian captain Marie-Lou Morin. "There’s so much energy in this routine, we love to swim it."

The discipline, first introduced at the 2009 World Trophy, features intricate patterns and figures. Two extra swimmers are added to create 10-member teams.

Morin was joined by teammates Janelle Ball, Gabriella Brisson, Annabelle Frappier, Sandy Gill, Claudia Holzner, Rebecca Maule, Samantha Nealon, Lisa Sanders and Jacqueline Simoneau.

Canada picked up fourth-place finishes in duet and team events earlier in the four-day competition.
