TASHKENT – Canada’s Jillian Gallays has won a bronze medal at the world wrestling championships.

The 27-year-old from Saskatoon defeated Natalia Malysheva of Russia 6-2 in Thursday’s 53-kilogram bout for third place.

Gallays defeated opponents from Belarus, South Korea, and Ukraine before losing to three-time Olympic champion Saori Yoshida of Japan in the semifinals.

Gallays also won bronze at the Commonwealth Games earlier this summer in Glasgow.
