TORONTO — Captain John Moonlight will lead Canada in its bid to repeat as rugby sevens champions at the Pan American Games.
The sport made its Games debut four years ago in Guadalajara, Mexico, where Canada defeated Argentina in the final. Toronto marks the debut of women’s rugby sevens play at the Games.
The sevens event is slated for July 11-12 at BMO Field.
The Pan American Games also offer the Canadian men a chance to continue their rivalry with the U.S. The Americans beat Canada earlier this month in a North American Olympic qualifying tournament, consigning the Canadians to a last-chance world repechage tournament in their quest to make the 2016 Olympic field.
Canada placed ninth in the HSBC Men’s Sevens World Series this season while the Americans were sixth.
