Canada routs American Samoa in rugby sevens

GOLD COAST, Australia – John Moonlight and Justin Douglas scored two tries apiece to lead Canada to a 50-0 victory over American Samoa in the Shield semifinal at the IRB Gold Coast Rugby Sevens on Sunday.

Sean Duke, Jordan Wilson-Ross and Adam Zaruba also scored tries for Canada while Harry Jones added 15 points on five conversions.

The Canadian squad will play in the Shield final later Sunday against either Kenya or Japan.

Earlier in the day, Canada fell 21-19 to France in the Bowl quarter-final. Virimi Vakatawa led France with two tries.

Moonlight, Jake Webster, and Ciaran Hearn scored tries for Canada, and Jones added two conversions.
