PRAGUE, Czech Republic — Canadians Heather Bansley and Sarah Pavan took the silver medal at the Prague Open beach volleyball tournament on Sunday after dropping a 2-0 decision to Brazil’s Agatha Bednarczuk and Barbara Seixas.

Set scores were 21-12, 21-18.

It was the first gold-medal match for Bansley, of Waterdown, Ont., and Pavan, of Kitchener, Ont., on the FIVB World Tour. The duo beat 24th-seeded Eduarda Lisboa and Elize Maia 2-0 in the semifinal to advance.

The Prague Open was the third women’s FIVB World Tour qualifying event for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

Canadians Jamie Broder and Kristina Valjas, who placed 17th this week after winning gold and bronze medals in the first two events this season, lead the provisional Rio rankings with 1,080 points. Chantal Laboureur and Julia Sude of Germany are second at 990 points and Bansley and Pavan (750) are third.
