Bellator champ Konrad retires from MMA

In a surprise move, Bellator heavyweight champion Cole Konrad retired from mixed martial arts. Konrad’s decision, which was first reported by Twincities.com, comes less than four months after a 60-second submission win over Eric Prindle at Bellator 70.

The two-time NCAA wrestling champion made his MMA debut in 2010 and accumulated a 9-0 record, picking up wins over UFC veterans Paul Buentello and Neil Grove along the way.

Konrad was known for his dominant wrestling and submission game — five of his wins came by unanimous decision

The 28-year-old Wisconsin native was one of Brock Lesnar’s main training partners while the former UFC heavyweight champ was active in the sport.

Konrad is reportedly retiring so he can become a financial trader at a Minnesota-based firm that supplies ingredients to the food processing and chemical industries.
