KEY WEST, Fla. — Dyah Davis unanimously outpointed Alfonso Lopez to take the North American Boxing Federation super-middleweight title Friday night.
Davis, from Boca Raton, Fla., and Lopez, from Huntsville, Texas, went the full 10 rounds during the main event of a nine-bout outdoor card at Mallory Square, normally a venue for Key West visitors to enjoy sunset celebrations.
Davis improved to 21-2-1, and Lopez dropped to 22-2.
In a second highlight event, Denis Douglin of Marlboro, N.J., won a split decision over Steven Martinez of New York. Douglin is 14-1, and Martinez 11-2.
The tradition of boxing in Key West dates to the 1930s when novelist Ernest Hemingway used to officiate sparring matches in an outdoor ring near his home on Whitehead Street.
