Earlier this week when it was announced rap superstar Kanye West will perform at the closing ceremony for the Pan Am Games, the news was met with mixed reviews.

Some felt having an international superstar like Kanye was a major boost to the event — also performing will be Miami’s Pitbull and Toronto singer Serena Ryder – while others thought they should have recruited a Canadian to headline the closing ceremony.

Don Cherry shares the mindset of the latter.

Although he never mentioned Kanye or Pitbull by name, the passionate face of Coach’s Corner made his feelings known in a Twitter rant Friday.

Cherry isn’t alone with his opinion. There is even an online petition that asks the organizing committee “to ask a proud Torontonian (or even a Canadian for that matter) to perform instead on July 26.”

Toronto mayor John Tory seems cool with it though.
