SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Former featherweight champion Urijah (The California Kid) Faber has cut his trademark locks in solidarity with his younger sister, who had her head shaved for brain surgery after a car crash.
Michaella Tastad, who was injured in a crash around the U.S. Thanksgiving, was slated to be released from hospital Friday. The 19-year-old was hurt in what turned into a multi-car pileup.
Faber (26-5), a former WEC 145-pound champion who now fights in the UFC as a bantamweight, tweeted it has been 12 years since his hair was this short.
The fighter used to wear his hair tied up or in cornrows when he stepped into the cage.
Faber, 32, says he may try to sell his hair for charity.
