TALLIN, Estonia — A disappointing fall kept Canada’s Mackenzie Bent of Uxbridge, Ont., and Garrett MacKeen of Oshawa, Ont., off the podium at the world junior figure skating championships.
Bent, from Uxbridge, Ont., and MacKeen, from Oshawa, Ont., finished fifth in ice dancing on Saturday. The Canadians were second after the short dance, but with seconds left in their free dance Saturday, MacKeen slipped and fell on both knees, costly them a major point deduction.
Anna Yanovskaya and Sergey Mozgov of Russia won the gold medal, while Lorraine McNamara and Quinn Carpenter of the U.S. were second and Alexandra Nazarova and Maxim Nikitin of Ukraine finished third.
Madeline Edwards of Port Moody, B.C., and ZhaoKai Pang of Burnaby, B.C., finished sixth.
Shoma Uno of Japan won the men’s singles gold. Boyang Jin of China captured the silver, while Japan’s Sota Yamamoto finished third.
Roman Sadovsky of Vaughan, Ont., was 14th.
Canada ended the competition with one silver earned by Julianne Seguin of Longueuil, Que., and Charlie Bilodeau of Trois-Pistoles, Que., in pairs Thursday.
