NYON, Switzerland — UEFA has rejected Fenerbahce’s appeal against playing a Europa League match in an empty stadium because of hooligan incidents.
UEFA says the Turkish club will play the second leg of the last-32 match against Bate Borisov behind closed doors next Thursday. The ruling was issued hours before the first leg in Belarus.
Fenerbahce threw objects onto the pitch during a group match against Borussia Moenchengladbach on Dec. 6.
UEFA decided that offence should trigger a suspended sanction for a similar incident during a Champions League playoff round against Spartak Moscow on Aug. 29.
